It again seems a while since the last blog post, things are just hectic beyond belief here! I think I've just got time for a quick summary of recent events, if I can even remember what's been going on! The last few weeks have been a bit of a blur really, what with the day job (only 4 and half weeks til redundancy day though!!), evening classes 4 nights a week, agility classes on Saturdays, and competitions and workshops with our dogs on Sundays!
Classes are going well at the new unit, with all the new puppy courses filling up in advance, and a new course starting every two weeks now. I'm starting to feel settled in the space, and it's great having all of our stuff set up permanently and all the equipment to hand. Just need to find an agility venue now and we'd be set up for good!!
We've done a couple of agility competitions with Finn and Willow over the last two weekends, and they're not doing badly. No more rosettes for Finn yet, but his jumping problem has been made worse by a sudden and unexplained weight gain which we're investigating with the vet, so fingers crossed we can get to the bottom of that. Willow's turning into the Steeplechase Queen, which is pretty good! So far every Novice Steeplechase class she's done she's got a Clear Round in, apart from the one where mum sent her the wrong way, but that was mum's fault and not Willow's! And at the Aldon show yesterday she not only got yet another Clear Round in the Novice Steeplechase, but she also came 3rd in Beginners Agility! She's still got a long way to go as she still massively lacks confidence and finds things very stressful and scary, but she's not doing badly at all, and we're very proud of her efforts. There's a video clip of some of her runs from the UKA Sands show on the 13th of June here:
This weekend we're off up to Kay Laurence's place for the 'What's New in Dog Training' and 'What's New in Clicker Training' seminars, so that should be a fascinating weekend! Then I think I might finally have a weekend off after that (or at least a Sunday off!), so that'll make a nice change!
Oh, and while I'm here and you're here reading blogs, check out this blog - our friends Ryan and Meg (human and dog!) are walking the South West Coast path in September to raise awareness of the need for blood donors for the National Blood Service. They're aiming to walk 630 miles in a month, and you can read all about their adventures here - Walk For Blood Blog - or you can join the Walk For Blood Facebook group if you're a FB addict! You can also find info on the Blood Service and how you can give blood by visiting their website here.
And finally I'll leave you with a video clip of some of our agility classes from the end of May - this was 'course week', and here are our attempts to run a Steeplechase course!
Wags and Kisses,
Shelley & Fantastic Mr Finn x
